In my future, I would love to create a clothing business where the clothing is organic, affordable, and isn't made in a sweatshop. My goal is to pay my workers the proper amount and give them proper benefits as an employee of my business. It's a personal problem with me when these big fashion industries, that make billions, have hazardous sweatshops and pay their workers extremely low. Recently, I watched an empowering documentary in my Apparel class, on how extreme low pay impacts it's workers and their families. Majority of these workers, worked for big fashion companies that I particularly loved and the employee's were dealing with extreme poverty and outstanding hours of labor. Another aspect that made me interested in child labor, was it's suppressing on the children's dreams and aspirations in life. When I was assigned to this project, I knew that I wanted to cover this topic, since of my growing interest of illegal Indian sweatshops pertaining towards children, especially those in India. Though, because of my need transform the lives of children born into in a seemingly eternal poverty, this assignment made me more knowledgeable of how it really effects the children in these unfortunate circumstances.
In the beginning of this assignment, I hypothesized the effects of child labor on India children educationally and socially. I hypothesized that extreme poverty made children lose interest in school and made them work at a very young age. I also hypothesized that working long hours as a kid, made them lose their innocence and social skills at a very young age. As my research of this assignment got more into depth, I started to realize that it was a cultural aspect as well. Originally, I thought it was an obligation for these children to financially support their families, rather than get education or to explore their environment, yet I realized that the children's parent's thought that education was irrelevant in their children's lives. Their parents and their culture didn't see the true value of education and having a healthy childhood.
Unfortunately , I had issues in the beginning with finding reliable sources for my topic. The sources that I did found were either outdated or counteracted my argument. In spite of that , I did find a couple of reliable and trustworthy websites to use for my argument. SIRS and NC WISE Owl aided me on finding valuable and updated resources. When I got back my essay, there were errors pertaining towards incorrect my MLA style and structure with my essay. After I got back the feedback, I made some changes to my essay to fix the problems. This feedback will help me correctly site and structure my essay for future purposes.
There hasn't been much updated improvements and regulations on child labor in India recently in later 2017 and in 2018. The most updated action to improve and regulate child labor was in mid 2016. This was the Child Labor (Prohibition And Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016 India. This act did make some advancements on prohibiting children from working in hazardous environments. Fortunately, the hazardous jobs for children has dropped from 83% to only 3%(Rudra). Even though this was a drastic drop, unfortunately the laws have a hidden side as well. The act didn't apply to family businesses and enterprises, doesn't regulate the poorer society labor, and there was no proper action to regulate this act from taking place. It is very vital for this act to regulate family businesses because those are the one's that are heavily are employed by children.
